August has arrived, and with it, the “Dog Days” of summer! We’ve compiled a list of local farms selling homegrown produce, flowers and other seasonal staples to enhance your summer table. Visiting nearby farms, farm stands and country stores is not only fun and family-friendly, it’s a great way to support small businesses in your community while bringing summer’s fresh flavors, vivid colors and healthy eating into your home. Within a 10-mile radius around Reading, MA you’ll find a cornucopia of different farms, producing locally grown produce all summer long. Some feature a bounty of vegetables, dairy, herbs, meat and groceries, while others are more specific to just flowers or fruit.

LunaFarm is a five-acre farm in North Reading that offers memberships in a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), a concept that has grown in popularity over the past few years as more and more people seek to eat healthy food grown closer to home. As a CSA member, you receive a weekly allotment of produce, while giving the farmer a secure income stream during key harvest months. Definitely a win-win!

Meadow Mist Farm in nearby Lexington is a small, rural, organic farm that raises and sells grass fed beef, lamb, pastured chicken and turkey, cage-free eggs, and seasonal garden veggies and berries.
